Starting the WNBL27 Season with a 2-0 record, thanks to impressive wins over Townsville and Adelaide, the new-look Perth Lynx roster has been exciting to watch.
While she isn’t suiting up for the squad as originally planned, Australian Opal Sami Whitcomb has praised what the team was able to display in their first two wins.
“They have such a distinct identity,” Whitcomb said on The Loop, presented by Blackmores.
“I got to watch them play Townsville in that home opener; they snuck that one out, and that was a great game.
“They came out absolutely flying in that game as well, and it’s just so cool to see.
“Even though they’ve got new players, that identity stays the same, and they’re able to do that straight away. They’re out running and flying.”
Whitcomb was complimentary of coach Ryan Petrik, as well as a pair of star recruits, for how the Lynx have adapted to those changes.
“Credit to Ryan [Petrik]; he brings in players that really suit that identity,” Whitcomb added.
“I think Teonni Key and Georgia [Amoore] there, you know they’ve got that college chemistry as well, which is really fun to see.”

Speaking further on Key, the Opals captain heaped praise on the star import, and spoke highly of two other Lynx veterans.
“Honestly, how good is Key? I mean, she’s so athletic, so long, she can shoot it from outside, she finishes really well,” she said.
“She’s going to be an absolute standout this season. Obviously they’ve got almost the whole starting five of standouts really.
“[Anneli] Maley’s back; she was tremendous in her first game, and she’s going to have another dominant year.
“Credit to Perth, they’re flying; they look great.
“I want to shout out Steph Gorman, who’s back and healthy and shooting lights out. It’s so good to see for Perth.”
The Perth Lynx continue their season against the Fire in Townsville on Tuesday, November 3, from 7pm AEDT, live on 9Now and ESPN via Disney+.
