Talking points
1 – Sydney blockbuster
In Round 1 of the WNBL27 Season, Southside Melbourne and Sydney played out a thriller at the Victorian State Basketball Centre, which the Flames won.
Now this Sunday, fans get the second chapter of this exciting clash, which features Chinese stars Shuyu Yang (Sydney) and Siyu Wang (Southside), at Afterpay Arena.
Expect a huge crowd, as this Round 4 fixture is the first part of Sydney’s double-header with the Kings.

2 – Will Bendigo get in winning Spirit?
Through the opening three rounds of WNBL27, only one team remains winless, and that’s Bendigo.
Obviously missing the reigning MVP, Izzy Borlase, hurts, but the side is struggling across the board statistically.
They’re currently seventh in field goal percentage, eighth in points and rebounds per game, and ninth in blocks and steals per contest.
The next chance for the Spirit to chalk up their first win comes on Saturday, against a red-hot Canberra Capitals squad.
Not to mention that fixture at Red Energy Arena will still be without Borlase.
3 – Maddy is ready to Rocc and Roll
The Geelong Venom have been without the heartbeat of their side, Maddy Rocci, since the opening game of WNBL27.
The Australian Opal, who was crowned the 2026 TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off Tiana Mangakahia MVP, is a huge inclusion for Cheryl Chambers’ side, who will look to defend home court against Townsville on Thursday.
Look for the guard, who had 33 points, 7 rebounds and 4 dimes in her lone appearance this season, to set the tone for Geelong and link up with Han Xu, in one of the most dangerous pick-and-roll pairings in the League.
4 – Building momentum
Numerous teams secured emotional and crucial wins in Round 3, including Tasmania, Townsville and Adelaide.
As important as those respective wins were, it’s imperative that they all build on them and not take a step back in Round 4.
While Townsville know what it takes to be successful in this League, the South Australian State Basketball Centre clash between the Lightning and Jewels looms as an intriguing one for the two new-look squads.
Early wins are critical in the WNBL, and I’m sure Claudia Brassard and Aja Parham-Ammar’s teams know that.
5 – Milestones galore
This coming round will see plenty of players bring up milestones, including Mikaela Ruef and Nyadiew Puoch playing their 150th and 100th WNBL games, respectively.
If Puoch scores three points in the game, she will also pass 900 for her WNBL career.
Other nearing point milestones are Sydney’s Lauren Nicholson (2,394), Perth’s Alex Ciabattoni (1,197), Adelaide’s Elissa Brett (294) and Bendigo’s Olivia Pollerd (199).
The milestones aren’t just restricted to games played and points scored, with Southside’s Carley Ernst (396 triples), Sydney’s Alex Wilson (395 triples), Ciabattoni (97 triples), Geelong’s Alex Sharp (95 triples), Bendigo’s Jade Melbourne (496 field goals made and 499 rebounds), Adelaide’s Zitina Aokuso (495 field goals made and 96 steals), Maddy Rocci (692 rebounds and 795 assists), Tasmania’s Ruef (1,392 rebounds), Adelaide’s Steph Talbot (295 steals) and Canberra’s Amy Atwell (97 steals) also nearing significant accomplishments.
