Fired up: Champs chase more silverware at Townsville Tip Off

The WNBL's TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off gets underway on Thursday night with a Grand Final replay between the Fire and Perth Lynx.

The 7pm AEST clash at Murray Sports Complex, set to be attended by sporting legends Lauren Jackson and Jonathan Thurston, will be the first time the Fire have played in front of their home fans since claiming victory in game one of last year's Grand Final Series.

Dubbed by the WNBL as 'Goat Night' with Jackson and Thurston sitting among the fans, the blockbuster rematch will set the scene for this year's four-day event.

The Tip Off also gives Shannon Seebohm's squad the chance to claim their third straight piece of silverware, after winning both the inaugural pre-season title and WNBL26 championship last campaign.

In a clear rally call, Fire coach Seebohm recently claimed the Fire had the "best fans in the League by a country mile."

WNBL Chief Operations Officer Justin Nelson said the League wants to make the Tip Off accessible to all fans across Townsville and the wider region.

"We think the best way to start the school holidays is to take the kids along to elite-level women's basketball to watch and meet some of the best players in Australia, and beyond," Nelson said.

"I love what Shannon came out and said last week. He's claimed the Fire fans are the best in the WNBL by a country mile, so I guess we'll find out this week."

After the Fire's opener on Thursday, they play Sydney on Sunday evening, in the final match of the exciting nine-game tournament.

In a push to give the WNBL maximum exposure at the Tip Off, kids will receive free admission across all four days, while entry each day starts from just $20 for adults.
