Talking points

Panic stations for Bendigo?

The Bendigo Spirit are still searching for their first win of WNBL27, falling to 0-3 after a 77-70 loss to the Geelong Venom on Monday night.

It’s been a frustrating start, with a two-point loss to the UC Capitals and a fourth-quarter fade against Geelong showing the Spirit have been close, but just haven’t been able to finish games without reigning MVP Izzy Borlase.

It’s far too early to hit the panic button, especially with Borlase set to return from the WNBA, but the Spirit will be desperate to get their season up and running in this contest.

Amy 'Splashwell' does it again

Amy Atwell keeps on delivering in WNBL27, pouring in a game-high 25 points in her last outing to lead the UC Capitals to a 77-68 win over the Geelong Venom.

The Capitals star continues to prove she’s far more than just a shooter in her first year in Canberra, taking control of contests and putting herself right in the MVP conversation to start the season.

With Atwell in this kind of form, the Capitals shape as a tough assignment for the winless Spirit.
