Lynx land superstar Australian guard

The Perth Lynx announced on Friday the commitment of rising Australian guard Georgia Amoore for the WNBL27, pending League approval.

The Ballarat-born Amoore, who was the sixth pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, arrives in Perth fresh off a strong season with the Washington Mystics in the WNBA.

"I'm really excited to be joining Perth and getting the opportunity to come home and play in the WNBL," Amoore said.

"From my first conversations with [head coach] Ryan [Petrik] and the club, I really liked the way they spoke about how they want to play.

"I love playing fast, getting up and down the floor and creating for the people around me, so I think it's going to be a really good fit.

"To be able to bring my experiences back to Australia, join a club with high expectations and be part of a team that wants to compete for a championship is really exciting.

"I can't wait to get over to Perth, meet the team and the fans and get to work."

Prior to her time in the WNBA, Amoore had a stellar five-year collegiate career with Virginia Tech and the University of Kentucky.

Across five seasons, Amoore amassed 2,460 points, 869 assists and 408 three-pointers, becoming just the third player in NCAA Division I women's basketball history to record at least 2,300 career points and 800 assists.

During her four seasons at Virginia Tech, she played a leading role in one of the most successful periods in the program's history.

In 2023, she was named ACC Tournament MVP after helping the Hokies claim their first ACC Championship before leading Virginia Tech to its first NCAA Final Four appearance.

Amoore was also named Most Outstanding Player of the Seattle Regional and set an NCAA Tournament record with 24 three-pointers during the Hokies' historic Final Four run.

In her final college season at Kentucky, she averaged 19.6 points and 6.9 assists per game, broke Kentucky's more than four-decade-old single-season assists record with 213, and earned multiple All-American honours.

More recently, in Amoore's debut WNBA season after missing all of 2025 with a knee injury, the 25-year-old has started all 36 of her matches and is averaging 5.8 points and 3.5 assists per game.

Perth Lynx Head Coach, Ryan Petrik, added that it was exciting to add a player with Amoore's calibre to the roster.

"Georgia's competitiveness, basketball IQ and ability to play at pace made her an outstanding fit for the club," Petrik said.

"She is one of the smartest and most exciting Australian guards in the game, and we're incredibly excited to bring her to Perth.

"She plays with pace, she can create her own shot, she makes the players around her better and she has shown throughout her career that she embraces the big moments.

"We want to play fast, aggressive and unselfish basketball and Georgia fits that style perfectly. To bring an Australian guard of her calibre back home and into our program is massive for us."

Amoore joins Alex Ciabattoni, Steph Gorman, Nya Lok, Anneli Maley, Teige Morrell, Haley Peters and Samantha Ashby as players already locked into the Perth Lynx roster for the WNBL27 season.
