The Townsville Fire are sitting pretty on top of the WNBL ladder after two rounds, thanks to a 2-0 record.
But that unbeaten record will be challenged in a big way when the Fire head to the VIC State Basketball Centre on Friday to battle the 1-1 Southside Melbourne Flyers, headlined by three time Olympian Cayla George.
One who is looking forward to the match up with the WNBL23 MVP is Fire import Lauren Cox, who is averaging 4.5 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks.
“It’s always fun playing a good team like that with really talented players. It’s definitely gonna be a test for us, but I think we’re ready and we’re excited,” Cox said to CODE Sports.
“She’s a great player, everyone knows the name Cayla George, she’s a legend in this country and in the basketball world, so it’s going to be a team effort trying to stop her.
“You can’t take any team lightly. You have to respect every team, so we take it one game at a time and not try to look too far forward.”
Friday's Indigenous Round fixture tips off at 7pm AEDT, live on ESPN2 and 9Now.
Tickets are still available here.
