Munger talks new roster, same loyalty

The UC Capitals will bring a new-look group of players into the WNBL27 season, and long-serving star Nicole Munger has pointed to team chemistry as a crucial factor heading into the campaign.

Speaking to media on Thursday, Munger touched on the importance of the period ahead for the Capitals, and building a strong rapport with a new group of teammates as they arrive in Canberra.

“Taking a fresh approach, taking it one day at a time right now with this group, [and] trying to develop the camaraderie on and off the court is probably just most important right now,” Munger said.

“We have five pre-season games this year … so I think those are going to be great for us to just have three hitouts against other competition in the league.”

Munger also spoke about her decision to re-sign with the club earlier this year, and how teammate Isa Brancatisano helped her through that process.

“I think Isa is such an incredible leader and role model, and when I saw she re-signed with the club … I knew that [between everybody here] that the club was heading in such a great direction,” Munger said.

“I think [I'm] just really excited to be apart of a really solid group with really solid people.

“Even without being in the playoff race at the very end [last season], we've been selling out games. The Canberra community get around it and they love us. So we're really lucky and thankful for that.

“We're still working on, right now, building on what we want to build on the court and then hopefully change that and get in the playoff race.”

The Capitals will face the Geelong Venom and Southside Melbourne Flyers in a pair of hitouts at the TechnologyOne Townsville Tip Off before tipping off their WNBL season at home on Saturday, October 17, against Bendigo.
