WNBL26 is set for an electrifying tip-off with John Cain Arena set to host the opening clash between the Southside Melbourne Flyers and UC Canberra Capitals on 2.00pm, Saturday 18 October.
Launching what promises to be the league’s boldest season yet, WNBL26 will burst onto the scene in one of Melbourne’s premier basketball stadiums with new energy and an enhanced game-day experience.

The season opener will feature some of Australia’s greatest basketball talent, including legendary Opals star Cayla George (Southside) and the highly anticipated return of superstar Jade Melbourne (Capitals) following a standout season in the WNBA.
“This isn’t just the start of a new season – it’s the start of a new era for women’s basketball in Australia,” WNBL CEO, Jennie Sager said.
“To open at John Cain Arena, one of Melbourne’s biggest and best venues, signifies the momentum behind women’s basketball. With participation numbers at an all-time high, there’s no denying that basketball is having its long deserved moment.
“Australia is home to some of the best athletes in the world, and we want to make it easier than ever before for fans of all ages to come see them play.”

As the league’s first time back to John Cain Arena since 2023, expect another electrifying atmosphere where fans will have the chance to witness greatness up close with Olympic and WNBA stars go head-to-head in Victoria’s premier basketball stadium.
This will be the beginning of a season filled with unforgettable moments and unmissable matchups.
