Talking points

Flames looking to bounce back

After their best start to a season in 15 years, the Sydney Flames will be eager to respond following their first loss of WNBL27, at the hands of the Tasmania Jewels.

The Flames had their moments in the 93-85 defeat and showed glimpses of a fightback, but they couldn’t contain a Jewels side that had all five starters score in double figures.

Even without Ally Wilson for the next month, Sydney’s star-studded roster will be confident of getting back on track and reminding everyone why they started the season so strongly.

Thompson's Unique debut

Unique Thompson is set to make her debut for the Southside Melbourne Flyers, joining a roster that needed more size and experience in the frontcourt.

The former Flame brings plenty of pedigree, and her first game comes against her old side, having been one of Sydney’s leading scorers in her debut WNBL season.

It may take a little time to build chemistry with her new teammates, but if Thompson brings the toughness she showed in Sydney, she’ll be a huge addition for the Flyers in this contest.
