This weekend's games saw six exciting fixtures help bring in the new year all around the country.

Highlighting this round was an incredible buzzer beater and a number of huge upsets.

Join us as we recap all the top moments from Round 12 during our weekly column.

Puoch calls game

In one of the games of the season between the UC Capitals and Perth Lynx, the scores were locked at 94-all with just seconds remaining.

But in the play of the game, Caps' Nyadiew Puoch intercepted a pass to Han Xu, took three quick bounces and launched a half court pray.

The rest is history with Puoch's shot swishing straight through the hoop, to secure Canberra their seventh win of the season.

Upsets galore

On Monday night, the Sydney Flames caused the upset of the season at Qudos Bank Arena, defeating Bendigo 89-78 and ending the reigning champions' 10 game win streak.

But just 24 hours later, that incredible win was topped by Geelong, who easily accounted for the Fire 88-71 in Townsville, which ended the Venom's nine game losing run.

It just shows that any team in this amazing WNBL competition can win on any given night, which will make the run towards Finals extremely exciting.

Southside rolling right now

The Southside Melbourne Flyers are now back in the all important top four, following three straight wins.

The key to this run is health, with the club's four top scorers, Maddy Rocci (16.4), Issie Bourne (15.5), Cayla George (15.3) and Haley Peters (11.2), all fit and firing once again.

It shows how potent the Flyers can be offensively with this quartet in their lineup, averaging 97.3 points per game across their three most recent victories.

Import bigs dominating

It goes without saying, Geelong's Mackenzie Holmes has been one of the best players this season, highlighted by her amazing 30 points and 14 rebounds against Townsville on Tuesday.

But she isn't the only import dominating for their respective teams of late.

Sydney's Unique Thompson (32 points and 10 boards) was pivotal in her side's triumph over Bendigo, while Adelaide's Sania Feagin is the competition's fourth leading scorer, averaging 17.7 points per game.

And of course, there's Perth's superstar Han Xu, who is averaging 18.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per contest, while helping the Lynx to a 7 1 record since her arrival.

Celebrate those milestones

During Round 12, Perth Lynx star Anneli Maley played her 150th game during her side's win over Adelaide.

Other milestones to be achieved in Round 12 include Bendigo's Kelsey Griffin hit both her 1500th WNBL field goal and 250th triple, Perth's Alex Ciabattoni scoring her 1000th point, Perth's Amy Atwell converting her 200th three pointer and Adelaide's Dallas Loughridge bringing up 500 career points.
